finding my voice

I’ve been blogging for a couple of years now, and it is always a little alarming to start up a new blog – especially in a non-social space like WordPress – because by all appearances no one reads it. I get a few views every day, so I’m not feeling totally alone here, but there’s no dialog. Which is ok. I can deal with that. I recognize that with time and a bit of effort (like making more comments on the blogs of others) I will gain readers, and commenters, and maybe even supporters and friends.

Meanwhile, I am still trying to understand what this blog is for, exactly. It has a reason, or I wouldn’t be putting energy into it. But the question looms: DO I have anything to say? I think anyone who starts a blog has to deal with that dark cloud. I’m here, I’m writing, and if I have a message someone will get it. I’m writing for people who are like me – trying to find a voice and a foothold in an uncertain world. Trying to make something good and make money and make connections. It’s all about doing an making.

And saying, and perhaps thinking. So stay tuned. I promise I’ll write something worth reading.

  2. You already have!

Written something (several things, actually) worth reading, that is.

I’ll definitely stay tuned and have no doubt your audience will find you and respond.

I read it and I can relate. It really is like tossing note-filled bottle into the sea.

    Keep writing.

I was one of the unfortunates who had a blog on Journalspace before its failure. I’ve gone from a few loyal readers to writing into the void, wondering about the very voice question you’re asking. Still, all that stuff about Peanut Butter Crunch, my consuming job, my stripey socks, and my loved ones has to come out somewhere.
