There are a lot of blogs out there that want to help you toward productivity, simplicity, abundance, good habits, etc etc. And they are, for the most part, well written and insightful. Or at least kinda insightful. There seems to be a lot of recycling of the same old principles… take a little buddhism, add a dollop of GTD and a dash of “the secret” ingredient, and voila! Another flavorless fallen cake.
Now now. I don’t mean to hurt any feelings here. In the bloggyshpere, it’s ALL good. We want to hear your take and let you have your voice. Really we do. But not if you use a beveled metallic font on a fake-marble background.
My friend forward me a link to a site today that I described as a good example of the “boys will be boys” paradigm. All black backgrounds. Bad fonts in shades of gunmetal. A personalized South Park charicature with a bonus reflection! (oh, please try to move beyond reflection as a graphic element. please please). This was a professional website promoting professional services, and yet it looked like it was made by a 10th-grader.
And I see this a lot. Just pathetically ugly websites. I would rather see ANY canned WordPress theme than more of this poorly personalized crap. It doesn’t have to be unique to be good.
I would also much prefer to read people writing about real life than making another list of the TOP TEN THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HAVE A MORE PRODUCTIVE MORNING. Or whatever. Yes yes, know how to get out of bed and make lists and clear out my inbox. After the first few lessons I caught on. I feel like the bloggysphere is getting crowded with the same messages repeated ad nauseum, and I just happen to think we all have more interesting things to share.

I agree. I was in retail sales for five years and I have enough experience to say that I can’t sell shit to a farmer who needs manure. It’s easier just to say what I think. So kudos to people who can say what they think and sell something doing it.
